Great Benefits of Endoscopic Equipment in Medical Science

The development of fiber-optic instruments has helped medical science to enter the modern era of endoscopy. Today, you can find the implementation of endoscopic equipment frequently in the medical science industry for examining the key issues that an individual experiences inside his or her body.
Endoscopes are designed with a flexible, thin, rigid, and long tube that has a light as well as video camera installed within. Through these installed features, surgeons and doctors can see inside of the patient’s body on a monitor screen. Complex surgeries have now become more available.
The entire process is being recorded so that when the time comes, the doctor can check it again. This allows surgeons in training to better improve their technique. Endoscopic equipment is a preeminent diagnostic medical procedure used to examine the inner surface of the human body, tissues, or organs. It can also be useful to enable biopsies as well as recovering foreign objects from the body.
When is the ideal time to make use of this medical equipment?
A medical professional may use an endoscope for different reasons, some of which are mentioned here.
Use of endoscopy to validate diagnosis: The use of endoscopy is greatly demanded when other devices like a CT scan, MRI or X-ray fails to diagnose. It is often carried out to figure out the degree of issues a known circumstance may have caused. In these cases, use of endoscopy may importantly contribute to the final decision doctors make as to the best treatment for their patients. Illnesses like breathing disorders, incontinence, stomach ulcers, chronic diarrhea, internal bleeding, urinary tract infections and irritable bowel syndrome can be diagnosed with the help of an endoscope.

Biopsies and endoscopes: The Olympus endoscopes are commonly used to diagnose cancer. Use of biopsies is commonly found in this section to collect samples of tissue to realize whether the problem is cancerous. Thanks to the endoscope, patients can avoid major surgeries and catch the cancer earlier. Doctors are better able to thwart the advance of the disease by conducting this minor surgery.

Use of endoscopes for surgery: Modified endoscopes are frequently used for the surgical procedures to remove the gallbladder, tying as well as sealing of the fallopian tubes. It is also used to remove the foreign objects and minor tumors from the patient’s body, lungs, and digestive system.

Tips for Endoscope Decontamination

Endoscopes and endoscopy equipment are widely used for early diagnosis of lethal diseases including cancer and also provide for treatment of tumors and cancers among other acute or chronic diseases. The sophisticated endoscopic equipment is inserted through the nose, anus or through an incision that is made in the skin, in the body of the patient. A contaminated endoscope can be a cause of a number of medical conditions and diseases. It must be stored in a sterile and hygienic condition and should be carefully decontaminated after its use. Below are some tips that will help you to decontaminate your endoscope.

Quality

All of the examination and diagnosis processes must be controlled by quality systems that are ISO certified. One example is the BS EN1SO medical device certification. The equipment should also be used in full accordance with the instructions provided by the manufacturer.

Staff Training

All of the medical staff, including the new staff that is involved in the endoscope decontamination process, should be trained well and fully. The training procedure must also be regularly updated.

Compatibility

Never re-process the devices that are designed and manufactured for single use. Check that the decontamination equipment and the decontamination processes of the hospital are fully compatible with each other.

Identification

Make a checklist and identify all kinds of endoscopes and other decontamination equipment that are being used in the hospital or clinic. Also, ensure that only correct and well-supervised decontamination processes are being used. All endoscopes should be traced back to the individual patient on whom they have been used.

Channel Connection

Check the number of inbuilt channels that each endoscope has and also ensure that they can be well connected to automatic re-processors or the washer disinfector. All channels of an endoscope must be flushed, even if a channel has not been used during an examining or treatment procedure.

Chemical Compatibility

Only use chemicals that are compatible with the endoscope, with the automatic re-processor and with the accessories of the endoscope. Use the chemicals at their correct temperature, concentration and at accurate contact times.

Preventive Maintenance

Have records of all the endoscopes and their usage and also record the usage of decontamination equipment. Make the record making process a regular one and also opt for well-planned and preventive maintenance.

You can keep the endoscopic equipment in their right decontaminated and hygienic state by following these simple tips.

Video Endoscopes: The Future of Endoscopy

Video endoscopic equipment is similar to the fiber endoscopes in their mechanics. They have an additional CCD, or Charged Couple Device and electronics mounted on their tops that support their operation. The optical bundle (found in fiber endoscopes) is replaced by the to-and-fro wiring. The site of the ocular lens is occupied by other electronics and some switches that are located on the most upper location of the endoscope’s control head. Video endoscopes do not require the physician to hold any of its part near his/her eyes, and hence there are lesser hygiene issues like splash contaminations. The new video endoscopes also have wide possibilities for improvement in designs and for the creation of better handling techniques.

The CCD Chip

The CCD chip of the endoscope contains 33,000 to 100,000 photo cells that are also known as pixels or picture elements. These pixels receive the photons that are reflected back from the inner mucosal surfaces. The individual photo pixel receptors of the chip only respond to the degrees of dark and light and not to the colors. The colored CCDs have larger number of pixels that provide for the overlay of a number of filter stripes of primary colors. The pixels under a given stripe respond only to a particular color of light. The sequential or black and white CCDs can also be made much smaller and of potentially higher resolution by illuminating all of the pixels. These sequential images (gut pictures having a little blue, some green and mostly red) can be stored in a temporary and transient manner in the banks of the processor’s memory chips. They are then fed sequentially to red, green and blue electron guns of the television monitor. The computers have the sophisticated and advanced technology for processing the images and a large number of chips that can optimize the inner unitary CCD output.

Best Quality of Images

The screen image quality of the video endoscope is on par with the fiber endoscope in both resolution and color. Everyone can view an image simultaneously through a video endoscope with the same clarity that was previously restricted and reserved for endoscopists only. Digital signals given by video endoscopes simplify image manipulations, and its recording can open ways for the creation of better and newer methods of image analysis, transmission and enhancement. Olympus endoscopes have high quality and are offered in both video and fiber forms for different diagnosing conditions.

Preparing for Upper Endoscopy

Upper endoscopy is most commonly performed in order to evaluate the possible causes and problems that lie within the body organs including duodenum, stomach and esophagus. It evaluates symptoms like vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain in the upper region of the abdominal cavity, anemia and intestinal bleeding and difficulty swallowing. This method is more accurate and effective than the X-ray method in detecting abnormalities like tumors and ulcers that lie within the reach of the instrument. Endoscopy can also perform biopsy and cytology for the minute microscopic examination of tissues and deduce whether a tumor is malignant (cancerous) or benign.

Preparing for the Endoscopy

For a complete and safe examination, endoscopic equipment is used for performing a biopsy on an empty stomach. Doctors advise patients to refrain from drinking and eating for 6 hours before they have been scheduled for the procedure.

The patient must inform the doctor all kinds of health issues, problems, and allergies he/she is affected by and the kind of medications he/she is taking. The doctor reviews the information to decide which antibiotics can be given prior to the treatment and which medications needed to be avoided so that the patient is not affected by allergy during the course of the examination. Doctors can also hold on some medications or may adjust some so that they do not interfere with the procedure.

By reviewing the health information, the doctor can know which areas need special attention during the procedure. Some patients may suffer from lung and heart diseases, and the doctors can prevent any mishaps by being attentive beforehand. Before the patient receives the diagnostic treatment, he/she is sedated so that there is no painful feeling for him to fear.

A biopsy done by endoscopy does not necessarily mean that the patient is suffering from cancer. The channel created by endoscopy helps the doctor to pass other kinds of instruments which can treat strictures, remove polyps and other benign growths (not cancerous), retrieve objects that have been swallowed accidentally and treat bleeding in the upper gastrointestinal tract. The massive capabilities of endoscopy equipment have reduced the need for surgery and transfusion to a great extent and have also made treatments cheaper and less time consuming.

A Successful Endoscopic Treatment for Face Lifts

With the help of technological developments and improvement in methods and treatments, it is now possible  to have wider options in regards to face lift procedures. Along with the traditional face lift techniques, there remains an option for endoscopic face lifts which aims in fetching the patient with a younger appearance and tighter skin that is extremely attractive.

Endoscopic treatment for face lifts is done with the help of endoscopy equipment which typically includes a fiber optic inspection scope. This fiber optic scope is used by the surgeon to visualize the interior walls of the skin and the muscles with the help of a monitor. Minimal incisions are required in this process in a sophisticated manner unlike the blatant cuts done in traditional facelift surgeries.

Aim of Endoscopic Face Lift Surgery

Face lift surgery has been a preferred way of treating the loosening and aging of muscles of the face for years - especially for people within the age gap of 30 to 50 years. They can try this procedure to get a brighter and youthful skin. Excess skin and suppleness are reduced with this mode of treatment.

The major conditions that can be treated with endoscopic face lift surgery include deep wrinkle, thin lips, sagging cheeks, the distorted skin near nose and mouth, and obviously loosened muscles.
Recovery Process

Face lift surgery can only become successful if a patient takes proper care post-surgery. It is absolutely necessary to follow each and every instruction of the doctors, so that a comfortable, quick recovery is achieved.

In the case of patients who are active smokers, there can be an issue regarding smoking since the pull may harm the face muscles and can cause bleeding at the incision site. Also, it may cause reduced blood flow under the skin or death in some cases. Anti-inflammatory medications can also cause bleeding problems in these patients. Medications like aspirin should be avoided. Along with the several restrictions in regard, food habits also need to be maintained.

However, these restrictions are implemented for a brief period only. After a month or two, post-surgery, one can go back to his or her normal life.

Know More on the Basic Norms of Arthroscopic Surgery

Arthroscopic Surgery is a common and preferred method of medical treatment, especially for people who are suffering from unbearable joint pains, swelling and unstable motor ability. This form of surgery is usually done with the help of endoscopic equipment such as an arthroscope, and the surgery type is often termed as keyhole surgery. Arthroscopic surgery is majorly performed on the larger joints of the knees and shoulders. This is an extremely safe and risk-free treatment since this kind of surgery requires only a small incision which  is made of 1 cm length, therefore reducing the risk of complications and infections. The recovery process of Arthroscopic Surgery is also much quicker with fewer side effects.

Arthroscopes are a high-end designed endoscopy. An example are the Olympus endoscopes that look almost like a thin telescope with an attached light to it. This small device is inserted into the joint areas by making a thin incision and with the illumination provided, the doctor can reach the affected areas and induce the proper treatment.  Other surgical equipment like forceps, tissue scissors, cleaning brushes, tissue staplers, and ligation devices, along with many others, are used in this kind of surgery.

Cleanliness and proper safety measures are extremely important while handling the endoscope equipment.  It is a surgical instrument so it needs a high-end cleaning and sterilization regime so that proper disinfection is done for further use. This way, not only the lifespan of the arthroscopes are increased, but it also benefits patients by keeping them risk-free of unwanted infections.

Most of the endoscopic devices collect a considerable amount of debris and microbes in a period of time, which can be quite harmful to the patients. So, it is very important that the operators strictly follow the rules of the manufacturers regarding the cleaning procedure. The machine should be disassembled for better cleaning. Abrasive materials while cleaning should be avoided, and a good enzymatic cleaner should be used for the perfect cleaning. Arthroscopic Surgery should always be done with the best in brand devices to avoid unnecessary functional harassment.

In a nutshell, it is always suggested to get your surgery done by efficient doctors and at reputed health centers to avoid all kinds of infections and risks.
